Installation method:
Bearings are generally double-supported structures, using a pair of bearings that are opposite to each other to balance the axial forces from different directions;
Therefore, back-to-back (DB) or face-to-face (DF) is used. (Back-to-back is also called reverse installation, and face-to-face is called normal installation)
How to determine whether back-to-back or face-to-face:
(1) If the intersection of the force axis is outside the two rotating bodies, it is back-to-back, otherwise it is face-to-face;
(2) If the opposite surface of the outer ring is narrower than the inner ring, it is face-to-face, and if it is thicker, it is back-to-back;
(3) If the opposite surface of the rolling element is large, it is face-to-face, otherwise it is back-to-back.
When the axial force of the shaft is higher in one direction, it can also be arranged in series (the figure shows the configuration selected for the higher bearing force in the right direction). In practice, this situation is rarely used and multiple bearings will not be selected in series on one side.
Lessons Learned:
1. When installing back-to-back, interference fit and hot-installation are generally used; when installing face-to-face, clearance fit and cold-installation are used;
2. When installing on a vertical shaft, generally back-to-back is used at the near load end and face-to-face is used at the far load end; if two pairs of bearings are used on the same vertical shaft, one pair should be back-to-back and the other pair should be face-to-face. The two pairs cannot be the same, otherwise they will easily get stuck;
3. Two pairs of bearings with the same installation method can be used for horizontal shafts, such as two pairs of back-to-back bearings that match and bear force symmetrically.
